Intervals
Hear two notes and name the distance between them.
- L1Big intervals ascendingP4, P5, P8 — the largest most distinct intervals. Ascending only.
- L2Add the 3rdsAdds m3 and M3. Major vs minor is the single most important interval skill.
- L3Common 7 ascendingAdds m2 and M2. The seven intervals most ear-training courses start with.
- L4Common 7 descendingSame 7 intervals but the second note is below the first.
- L5Common 7 mixed directionAscending or descending — you don't know which.
- L6All 12 intervals ascendingAdds the tritone 6ths and 7ths.
- L7All 12 mixed directionEvery interval any direction. The end of pure-interval training.
- L8Common 7 harmonicBoth notes at once. Forces you to hear interval quality not movement.
- L9All 12 harmonicEvery interval played as a chord.
Chord quality
Hear a chord in a random key and name its quality — major, minor, dom7, sus, diminished, and so on. These levels strike the whole chord at once.
- C1Major vs minorThe single most important chord sound: is the 3rd major or minor?
- C2Add the dominant 7thAdds the dom7 — the restless, bluesy chord that wants to resolve.
- C3Major 7th vs dom7Adds maj7. Hear the dreamy major-7th against the gritty dominant.
- C4Suspended chordsAdds sus2 and sus4 — no 3rd at all, so neither major nor minor.
- C5Diminished & augmentedAdds the unstable triads: dim (squashed) and aug (stretched).
